Stachys byzantina (Lambs Ear)

Stachys byzantina (Lambs Ear)

Who doesn't want to touch Stachys byzantina's wonderful soft, velvety, silver-gray leaves? They are just as soft as they look! Resembling lamb's ears, they will be your (grand) children's favorite, and you will be fascinated to see the leaves after rain when ball - formed raindrops lay elegantly on the leaves. An extra bonus is the pleasant scent when leaves are crushed;
Stachys byzantina (Lambs Ear) is primarily grown for its leaves and makes a great deer resistant groundcover. In late winter new dense leave rosettes will appear and you can use them to extend your groundcover area or replace older plants. Early summer velvety gray flower spikes will develop carrying small pinkish flowers. Great to combine with different grasses.
In Redding this plant stays ever green (gray) and loves to grow in full sun, or partly shade. The gray thick leaves take care that this plant can do with little water. Be careful with too much overhead watering; it can cause the plant to rot.
