Sisyrinchium bellum (Blue-Eyed Grass)

Who says that grass like plants don't have nice flowers? Take this native Sisyrinchium bellum, which grows around Redding in foothills, woodlands, and wetland riparians,in spring it produces for weeks clusters of vivid blue, iris like flowers. Not for nothing this herb bears the common name Blue-Eyed Grass.
Sisyrinchium bellum will look lovely in your rock garden, but why not use them at the front of your borders among your daffodils, California Poppy and other spring flowers?
Blue-Eyed Grass is not fussy about soils it will tolerate clay, as well sandy soils. It loves part shade, or full sun and will welcome regular summer water. It can do with low water but also will be successful in wet spots. An easy plant, heat - and cold hardy in Redding.(Zone 4-9).
