Dicentra formosa (Western Bleeding Heart)

Western Bleeding heart has beautiful, delicate, ferny, blue green foliage to 1 ½ ft. tall, clumps colonize by runner and seed and can spread to 3 ft. wide. In the spring naked pink tinged stems bare pendulous pink clusters of heart shaped flowers. Western Bleeding heart is a very attractive California native ground cover. Plant in the shade, to part sun, and give low to moderate water. Well pared with Anemone (Japanese Wind Flower) which blooms in the fall and has similar growth habits. This is one California native that will thrive for anyone.
