Calycanthus occidentalis (Spice Bush)

Calycanthus occidentalis (Spice Bush)

Spice Bush is an outstanding California native shrub found throughout Shasta County. The name Spice Bush comes from the intoxicatingly cinnamon gingery fragrances released from all parts of this plant, when disturbed. Spice Bush is a deciduous shrub that grows 4-12 ft. high and wide with large bright green leaves and intriguing maroon blossoms that resemble sea earchins. Will grow in the sun or the shade, but prefers afternoon shade in Redding area. Plant as a backdrop to other plants or beneath Oaks on your property where Spice Bush will naturalize. This is a no care needed large shrub, with a beautiful natural shape, nice color, and fantastic fragrance.
